John Striebel Liberty Magazine Dixie Dugan "Show Girl in Society" Illustration Original Art (1928). Dixie Dugan debuted in two slightly naughty novels written by J. P. McEvoy, and serialized in 1928-29 in the pages of Liberty. McEvoy's novels were then published in book form by Simon and Schuster as Show Girl (1928) and Hollywood Girl (1929). In the first story, Dixie begins as a Broadway chorus girl, and in the second she moves to Hollywood. Caption: "They were doing their stuff all over the lobby while Teddy directed them and the band from his perch on the porter's desk." This greytone illustration, drawn in ink and wash on board, has an overall size of 15" x 13.5", and aside from a one-inch tear through the center-right margin, and some overall aging and wear, the art is in Very Good condition. Signed at the lower right.
